Goal: Students need an application that allows them to track their tasks, due dates, complete assignments, and check grades, so that they can stay on top of their coursework and get a high grade in their classes.
Assume today is Monday 8/16/21. Mary’s sequence of events at the beginning of her Algebra 101 class:
Week 1:
• Completed her initial assessment on Monday, 8/9/21 at 2:02 pm; Mastered 15 topics out of 20 in her assessment
• Worked on Chapter 1 assignment, which is due by Wednesday, 8/18/21 at 3:00 pm
• Received notification that her instructor scheduled a quiz on Chapter 1 for Thursday, 8/19/21 at 1:00 pm. The • quiz will be proctored and taken in class
Week 2:
• Submitted Chapter 1 assignment on Monday, 8/16/21 at 4:56 pm
• She is currently working on her next assignment, Chapter 2, which is due on Thursday, 8/26/21 at 5:00 pm
• Received notification of an extra credit assignment due on Tuesday 8/20/21
• Received notification that her instructor scheduled a test on Chapter 1 for Monday, 8/23/21 at 1:00 pm. The test will be proctored and taken in class
• Received notification of an upcoming assessment scheduled for Tuesday, 8/31/21
• Her overall grade in ALEKS is currently 73%
Using the user journey provided to me, I summarized a list of features that need to be included in the application, and sorted them as must-have or nice-to-have based on my time restriction of 1 week for the challenge.
Interactive Prototype
Through secondary research, I learned that having the overall grade in the class presented on the homepage can be anxiety-inducing and potentially negatively impact a student’s self-esteem. In my final high-fidelity mockup, I decided to replace the overall grade chart with a calendar to give back a sense of control for the student over their progress in the course.
